What to expect?

This is a flat walk of approximately 8.5 miles (roughly 3.5 hours) in beautiful unspoilt and desolate marshland with a definite Dickensian flavour (although I doubt we'll actually meet Magwitch!). We leave at 11.00am from the Castle Inn at Oare village and follow the Saxon Shore Way with views across the river to Sheppey. On the way back we pass through Conyer Creek. Those with an interest in birds, bring bins. Please park considerately around the village not in the pub car park.

Having now done the walk-out, I'm happy to tell you this is a spectacularly beautiful walk with forgotten hamlets, wild river scenery and even seals if the tide is right. Due to the length of the walk, it is doubtful we will be able to have a meal at lunch time. I suggest bringing a light packed lunch to picnic en-route and those who wish can have a meal at one of the pubs in the village or one of the many restaurants or pubs in nearby Faversham after the walk.
